Wood Dale Library patrons can experience the famous CAC River Cruise. This tour involves a moderate amount of walking and steep stairs. There is no charge to participate.
Our day begins with a ride on METRA into the city. Once there, we have just under two hours to make our way to the Chicago Architectural Center (CAC) Boat Dock. We will board Chicago's First Lady, a cruising vessel that holds up to 250 passengers and features open air decks, full-service bars, climate-controlled lower cabins, and upscale granite and marble restrooms. Just being onboard is an unforgettable experience. We will then embark on a 90-minute cruise as an expertly trained CAC Docent shares fascinating stories behind more than 50 buildings along the Chicago River. We will hear how Chicago grew from a small settlement into one of the world's largest cities in less than 100 years. Upon returning to the dock, we will have two hours to make our way back to Union Station. This is a perfect time to experience the Chicago Riverwalk, perhaps tour the Chicago Architectural Center across the street from the Boarding Dock, enjoy a snack or a late lunch/early dinner in any of the restaurants along the Riverwalk, or just sit and enjoy watching people in this magnificent setting. We will be back in Wood Dale around 5:15 p.m.
